For our U.S.-based World Cup watchers this week, one particularly awesome victory will stay in our repertoire for a while (sorry, BSD London). Gathered around the U.S. vs. Ghana game on Monday, we got caught up in the moment.
For BSD New York, Monday’s win was a tale of two rooms. While 50+ fans cheered over beers and pizza in our kitchen, a smaller team collected in a conference “war room” to support social community management efforts with our long-time partner, the U.S. Olympic Committee. Working collaboratively, we helped drive a live social program with Team USA fans at the center.
And they weren’t afraid to come out in numbers: The Today Show got behind our #USAGoalFace hashtag, so did the legions on Instagram, Twitter, and Vine. We built a new site to pull this content together (and even contributed our own #USAGoalFace). What’s more, the USOC experienced Olympic-level attention for its social posts—especially as one of the first outlets to celebrate the win. All of this activity drew in a record rate of new supporters by making a meaningful real-life moment an awesome digital one, too.
For the USOC, a win like Monday’s is one of many opportunities to celebrate what’s great about sports, whether that’s athletes competing for global cred or just bragging rights. With four Olympians on the U.S. World Cup team, Team USA definitely has some skin in the game—but they’re also working to bring out the best in fans. So regardless of who you cheer on, take a second to enjoy this big moment. That’s kind of what it’s all about.
And let’s also be clear: you really should be rooting for Team USA.
The U.S. takes on Portugal this Sunday. Go get your #USAGoalFace ready.
